‘Do not lift weights’ coaches and so called experts say. ‘It’ll make you slow and too bulky’ they declare. ‘Just look at those bodybuilders’ they’ll add to back this up. Unfortunately for athletes that are coached by an anti-weight training coach, they will never achieve their potential in their chosen sport. Here are the facts.Read This Article

Let us clear up something for the start - squats are no more dangerous then sitting down to eat at the family table. Or getting on the bathroom throne every morning, for that matter. From a biomechanics point of view, these movements are almost exactly the same. So inherently squatting is no more dangerous than a number of everyday activities, even if you do have hip, back or lower limb dysfunction like sacroiliac joint pain. Then why do people hurt themselves squatting?Read This Article

At the recent Eleiko Strength Summit in Rhode Island, I had the pleasure of listening to the former Bulgarian & Turkish weightlifting coach, Ivan Adadjiev.
Abadjiev is quite famous in weightlifting circles and somewhat revolutionized the sport of weightlifting (and training athletes in general) with a radically different approach to training. As a lifter himself, he won a silver medal in weightlifting at the 1957 World Championships. After finishing his athletic career, Abadjiev started training young weightlifters. Read This Article

In mid April, I headed down to the Australian Fitness Expo which is held every year in Sydney. The Australian Fitness Expo is basically a show of the best fitness related businesses have to offer and it is a massive event with all shapes and sizes attending (see some of the pics below). At the fitness expo, the average punter gets to hang out with elite bodybuilders, fitness models, strength athletes and professional sportspeople who all get brought down by their respective sponsors. Highlights for myself was exchanging grip training tips with America's Stringest Man Derek Poundstone and talking nutrition with bodybuilding legend and 6 time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates (pictured to the left). Also because it is dominated by supplement companies, you cannot help but walk out with two or three showbags loaded with protein samples, tee shirts and magazines. In fact, don't tell anyone this but I almost made myself sick from eating too many protein (cookie, bar, shake) samples on the first day. Read This Article

One of the girls that completed my 15 Day Detox at the start of the year (who by the way now is rocking a full on six pack at age 40+ from that nutrition plan and her hard training at our personal training facility), has been bringing in these awesome treats for everyone to try. The best ones have been these little Mini Minty Chocolate Muffins so I asked her to give us all the recipe for them. Read This Article

Another video for you. This time I am chatting about what you really need to worry about with dieting and losing body fat. Now there are three main factors we use: 1) what you eat, 2) when you eat and 3 ) how much you eat. These factors are also listed in order of importance to your fat loss success. So that means what you eat is more important than when you eat and when you eat is more important than how much you eat. Read This Article

I did a video recently talking about how important protein is to our health and helping us to keep lean. Do not worry though it is a little bit more sedate than my last one I shared with you guys - the FATGRIPZ promo video. Now protein is important for keeping lean for three main reasons - 1) protein is physiologically necessary to humans survival 2) protein is the best detoxifier of the body and 3) protein takes a heck of a lot of energy to digest so your body is working hard and burning fat just by eating the stuff. Anyway enough talking - watch the video, go eat some meat and tell me what you think! Read This Article

If you have spent any time on my site or around me, you'll know I love fat grip impelments. And the best of them all is FATGRIPZ. Now not only do they make a great product, they are also great guys. When Matt Scorringe (who is a former flatmate of mine) got leukaemia, they donated a cool $500 to help him with his treatment costs. So there are pretty cool right... Anyway they needed a promotional video and I thought I would oblige with a bit of a humorous take on a few American advertisements. Check it out...

For the second time in a month I have been back and forth to the U.S. This time I went East Coast to Rhode Island for Charles Poliquin’s Level 3. I had a blast over there and caught up with a friend of mine who is at Yale University. I even managed to score tickets three rows back from the court at the TD Gardens and watched the Boston Celtics take down the Chicago Bulls. Another great thing was hanging out with a whole heap of likeminded health & fitness professionals. One of the guys I hung with the most was Joe Dowdell who also happens to be one of the U.S.’s top personal trainers. Get this too – this guy lives the life right because during the week, the dude also got voted into the top 100 bachelors in New York. Not bad considering he will applying for the pension soon (just joking Joe…)Read This Article
